cider {house} rules

well. it’s official. we have joined the cult ranks of other pittsburghers who have ventured into arsenal cider house & wine cellar. how many people do you know have a civil-war themed brew house…or still make mead for that matter?!

the owners are incredibly kind people, brewing on-site in small batches and generously heaping up to four samples of cider at a time to quench your thirst. we’ve been back twice in 3wks and the followers are faithful! we noticed that the incidence of ‘regulars’ was quite high, even for those who lived quite some distance from their shop! we are lucky to have it in only a few minutes drive! we bought a growler and so far have had a dry apple cider called the ‘fighting elbeck’ and a peach variety. they had 4 different types of apple cider alone! however, my interest is piqued on trying the sour cherry cider and in a couple weeks the pumpkin cider! holla!

my favorite part of this wine cellar was that i felt ‘comfortable’ and not out of my element as i might have in a wine bar. i don’t feel that i know nearly enough about vino to really get all snobby you know? i love that in the cider house environment, it’s a discussion of varying topics engaging each other in community or in the how to’s of ‘brew. i love you pittsburgh, keep doing what you’re doing!

1. do you like cider?
yay for it being gluten free!
2. best thing you’ve done this week?

I love cider! I really want to try pumpkin cider. Yum! Best thing I’ve done this week—-hmmmm. Watched RuPaul’s Drag Race?? It’s been an uneventful week (although I will just tell people it was uneventful—RPDR was truly amahzing).

This post makes me miss The General Lafayette Inn. Named after a Civil War general. It was so creepy and some said…haunted! A brew house we spent most of our 20′s in. Really cool spot, live music, etc. After it being around for YEARS t closed. So sad!!! You would have loved it there!
