DIY psyanky egg

i’ve been on a kick over the past year really trying to engage my family heritage (carpatho-rusyn) but with strong ukranian ties. i went to the czech republic, made hrudka & am investigating what it would take to make these beautiful eggs for the easter! apparently, my great-grandfather was quite masterful in making these every holiday season!

from wiki: Pysanky –from pysaty (писати), “to write”– are raw eggs created with the wax-resist method (batik). The designs are “written” in hot wax with a stylus or a pin-head. Wooden eggs and beaded eggs are often referred to as “pysanky” because they mimic the decorative style of pysanky in a different medium.

pretty gorgeous right? here are the instructions to make your own!

Beautiful! We used to make those when I was little, and I have a few hand-dyed eggs as well as some Japanese paper-decorated eggs. Always makes me think of Easter with my family.

These are gorgeous! I’m part Hungarian and my grandmother actually made eggs like these. Other traditions… Not really! My hubby is half Japanese though so we try to learn as much as we can about Japanese culture. We just finished a delicious Japanese breakfast actually.

Very pretty. I saw something similar in Kuala Lumpur but I think the techniques used were different. These are brighter and prettier methinks.

Those eggs look gorgeous! The only tradition I can think of is attending the Scottish Highland Games in Ligonier, Pa., every year. So much fun.

Gorgeous….I can’t even imagine how long it would take me to make one of these!

I am half-Indian and often attempt to make some decent Indian food. I continue to fail. :(
