happy labor day weekend! sorry about the lack of posting but as you know i recently began a new position in cancer biology so my ‘downtime’ is decompressing from learning all.the.things. lately, i come home and prepare dinner and don’t even want the tv on! i just need to stop the stimuli and just talk or relax with some yoga.
the vegan experiment went 11 days and was ended with a measly can of tuna on thursday night. i honestly could have kept going except for the fact that i asked myself why i was doing it in the first place. my answer of course was a pretty lame one: just to see if i could do it. i felt a bit of guilt in not having a better excuse than that, but it is what it is.
how could i possibly reconcile the ‘sins of my past’ in science that relied so heavily on animal modeling or the fact that at present i am using antibodies for staining cells derived from mouse, rabbit or goat? i’m not one to lead a double life and when i do something, i give it 100%.
besides my skin becoming very dry and itchy, i also started to break out. this was probably due to ingesting too much soy (tofu/edamame/tvp). oh the vanity also, i felt like my social life was starting to suffer. it’s pretty difficult to maintain a vegan lifestyle in a city with very few vegan options. i didn’t want to be ‘the sad salad girl’ when dining out with friends. it was also becoming a daily source of lunch conversation with coworkers. it’s bad enough being the ‘new girl’ and having celiac disease so to restrict my diet to even fewer options probably seemed absurd. usually, i’m not one to care but i don’t need to foster speculation about my weird eating habits haha. i plan on having a few vegan days as a compromise for my health and so i don’t rely so heavily on animal protein. for me, this is a decision that i’m at peace with and will bring me the best of both worlds.
p.s. i also got my haircut AGAIN a couple days ago. i’ll show it to you soon in the meantime, i’m off to celebrate a romantic weekend getaway at a fancy hotel and some fine dining with very strong classic cocktails! cheers!!
